Sales at large stores in the Basque Country fell by 5.0% in November 2011
Sales of food products registered a year-on-year fall of 1.0% and other products were down by 7.2%
Sales registered in the large stores in the Basque Country in November 2011 experienced a nominal year-on-year downturn of 5.0% in homogenous terms of the working calendar, according to Eustat data. Sales of food products at large stores reflected a nominal year-on-year fall of 1.0%, whilst other items were down by 7.2%.
By territory, in Araba/Álava there was a nominal year-on-year drop in sales of 8.4%, in Bizkaia there was a drop of 3.6% and Gipuzkoa witnessed a fall of 6.0%.
With respect to the previous month, October 2011, sales for the Basque Country as a whole fell by 2.8% in nominal terms, once seasonal effects had been eliminated. Sales of food products dropped by 1.6% compared to the previous month, whilst sales of other products also performed negatively, down 3.5%.
By provinces, in relation to October, there was a drop in sales in the three provinces: in Bizkaia they were down 2.5%, in Gipuzkoa they dropped 2.8% and in Araba/Álava there was a fall of 3.9%.
In constant terms, sales at large stores in the Basque Country registered an 8.0% year-on-year decrease and a 3.3% fall in comparison to the previous month.
Compared to November 2010, sales of food products fell by 4.4%, whilst those of other products were down by 9.9% in constant euros. Territorial performance evidenced a downturn in all three provinces: Álava dropped by 11.3%, Bizkaia by 6.6% and Gipuzkoa by 9.1%, in constant terms.
Compared to the previous month, food product sales, once the price effect had been discounted, fell by 1.7% compared to October 2011 and those of other products saw a reduction of 4.1%.
By provinces, Álava registered a drop of 4.3% and there was a fall of 3.1% in both Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa, in real terms.
Personnel employed in large stores fell by 0.4% in November 2011 with respect to October 2011, in deseasonalised terms, with Gipuzkoa experiencing a positive variation, with a rise of 0.9%, whereas both Álava and Bizkaia experienced falls of 1.8% and 0.7%, respectively.
