INDUSTRIAL PRICE INDEX OF THE BASQUE COUNTRY (IPRI) SEPTEMBER 2011
Industrial prices rose by 0.1% in September 2011 on the previous month
They rose by 7.1%, with regards to the previous year
Industrial prices in the Basque Country rose by 0.1% in September 2011 compared to the previous month, according to EUSTAT data. With these data, the year-on-year rate for September, which indicates the fluctuation in industrial prices over the last twelve months, showed growth to be 7.1%.
A more detailed sectorial analysis shows that in September 2011 the most inflationary branch, compared to the previous month, was “Coke Plants & Oil Refining” (3.3%), followed by “Electricity, Gas & Steam” (1.1%) and “Textile, Garments, Leather & Footwear”, with an increase of 0.4%. On the other hand, the sectors that posted the greatest decreases in prices were “Timber, paper, and graphic arts” (-1.4%) “Metal and Non-Metal Minerals” (0.7%), and “Chemical Industry” (-0.5%).
During the year-on-year period, September 2011 on September 2010, the highest price rises were recorded by “Coke Plants & Oil Refining" (23.3%) “Electricity, Gas & Steam” (21.5%), and “Chemical Industry” (7.4%). On the other hand, the only sector that posted price downturns was "Extraction Industries" (-1.8%).
With regards to the classification of Goods by economic destination, and compared to the previous month, the only sector that recorded a fall was Intermediate Goods, which saw a reduction in its prices of 0.8%. Energy rose by 2.3% and Equipment Goods rose by 0.2% compared to the previous month. Consumer Goods as a whole also saw growth of 0.2%, due to the rises obtained by Consumer Non-Durables (0.3%), whereas Consumer Durables fell by 0.1%.
The price evolution of these large groups of goods increased in all cases over the year-on-year period. Energy prices increased by 22.5%, Intermediate Goods by 4.7%, Equipment Goods were up 2.4% and Consumer Goods registered a 2.4% increase. Among the latter, the prices of Consumer Non-Durables rose 3.1% whilst Consumer Durables were up by 0.6%.
