INDUSTRIAL PRICE INDEX OF THE BASQUE COUNTRY (IPRI) MARCH 2011
Industrial prices rose by 1.6% in March 2011 on the previous month
They were up 10.1% on the previous year
Industrial prices in the Basque Country rose by 1.6% in the Basque Country in March 2011 compared to the previous month, according to EUSTAT data. The year-on-year rate for March, which indicates the fluctuation in industrial prices over the last twelve months, therefore showed growth to be 10.1%
A more detailed sectorial analysis shows that the most inflationary branches in March 2011, with regard to the previous month were “Coke Plants & Oil Refining” (7.5%), “Electricity, gas & steam & air conditioning” (2.3%), “Metallurgy & Metal Products” (1.6%) and “Chemical Industry” (0.9%), among others. On the other hand, the sectors that posted decreases in their prices were “Extraction Industries” (-0.9%), “Manufacturing Transport Material” (-0.5%), “Food, Beverages & Tobacco” (-0.1%) and “Furniture & other Manufacturing Industries, Repair and Installation" (-0.1%).
During the year-on-year period, March 2011 on March 2010, the highest price rises were recorded by “Electricity, Gas & Steam" (29.6%) “Coke Plants & Oil Refining” (25.7%), “Metallurgy and Metal Products” (11.1%) and “Food, Beverages & Tobacco” (8.4%). On the other hand, prices fell in "Extraction Industries" (-6.8%) and "Pharmaceutical Products" (-0.9%).
According to the Classification of Goods by economic destination, the fluctuation in the large sectorial groups in March was as follows: the price of Energy rose by 5.2%, Intermediary Goods by 1.3% and the prices of Capital Goods were up by 0.1%. Consumer Goods overall decreased by 0.1%, as the result of the drop in Non-Durables (-0.1%), as Durables remained stable with respect to the previous month (0.0%).
The price evolution of these large groups of goods also increased in all cases over the year-on-year period. Energy prices increased by 27.2%, Intermediate Goods by 9.5%, Capital Goods were up 2.1% and Consumer Goods registered a 2.6% increase. Among the latter, the prices of Non-Durables rose 3.5% while Durables were up by 0.4%.
