INDUSTRIAL PRICE INDEX OF THE BASQUE (IPRI). JULY 2010



Industrial prices remained unchanged in the Basque Country in July 2010 compared to the previous month


They were 4.8% up on the previous year (July 2010 on July 2009)


Industrial prices in the Basque Country remained unchanged (0.0%) in July 2010 compared to the previous month, according to EUSTAT data. The year-on-year rate for July, which indicates the fluctuation in industrial prices over the last twelve months, therefore stood at 4.8%.

A more detailed sectorial analysis shows that the most inflationary branches in July 2010, compared to the previous month, were “Electricity, gas and water” (2.1%), “Paper, Publishing and Graphic Arts” (1.3%), “Chemical Industry” (0.5%) and “Transport Equipment” (0.4%). By contrast, the sectors with the greatest drop in prices were “Oil Refinery” (-3.4%) and “Metal and Non-metal Minerals” (-0.7%).


Over the year-on-year period, July 2010 on July 2009, the highest price rises were recorded by the branches of “Oil By-Products” (19.9%) , “Metallurgy and Metal Items" (6.2%), “Electricity, Gas and Water” (5.0%) and “Other Manufacturers” (5.0%). On the other hand, the sectors that posted the greatest price drops were "Timber Industry" (-1.1%), "Metal and Non-Metal Minerals" (0.3%) and “Machinery" (0.3%).


Following the classification of Goods by economic destination, the July price evolution of large sectorial groups was as follows. the prices of Intermediary Goods rose by 0.3%, Capital Goods by 0.2% and Consumer Goods overall by 0.2%, as a result of the rise registered by the prices of Consumer Non-Durables (0.2%), while Consumer Durables did not fluctuate with respect to the previous month (0.0 ). However, Energy prices fell by 0.9%.


The price evolution of these large groups of goods reveals differences over the year-on-year period. Energy prices increased by 12.5%, Intermediary Goods by 5.5%, Capital Goods were up 0.6% and Consumer Goods registered a 0.5% increase. Among the latter, the prices of Consumer Durables fell by 0.4% while Consumer Non-Durables were up by 0.9%.
