CONSTRUCTION COSTS INDEX (ICCE) JANUARY 2010



Construction costs in the Basque Country rose 1.3% in January 2010 compared to the previous month



Over the last twelve months (January 2010 compared to January 2009) building costs recorded a 0.1% decrease


The Construction Costs Index rose by 1.3% in the Basque Country in January 2010 with respect to the previous month, which means that the year-on-year rate for that month shrunk by 0.1%, according to EUSTAT data.

In January 2010, labour costs increased by 2.0%, whereas raw material costs were up by 1.1%.


In January, the costs of raw materials in the Building and Civil Works sub-sectors evolved in a similar way, with 1.0% and 1.6% increases in the costs of raw materials compared to the previous month in Building and Civil Works, respectively. There were differences in the performances of both sub-sectors during the year: Building raw material costs fell by 1.2%, whereas those for Civil Works accumulated a 1.7% increase.

Oil By-products (27.4%) stood out among the prices of raw materials consumed by the sector that experienced the highest inflation rates over the last twelve months. Other sectors with positive increases in prices were Rubber and Plastic (0.5%), Water (0.5%) and Electrical Equipment (0.3%). On the other hand, the annual prices (January 2010 compared to January 2009) of raw materials decreased in the following sectors: Electricity and Gas (-8.3%), Timber Industry (-4.9%), Metallic Items (-2.6%) and Metallurgy D 0-5%).
