(1)Sanitary quality of bathing waters at beaches: The minimum required quality criteria for bathing waters are set by the Royal Decrees 734/1988 and 1341/2007

Therein a series of imperative values (obligatory) and guide values are designated, both for the microbiological and physical-chemical parameters, compliance with which is an objective of the sanitary action.

a consequence of which would be an aim of the health action.

(2)The classification of the beach area refers to the whole of the beach without differentiating by points as in the case of the water. Therefore, all the points on a beach will have the same classification although there may be differences between them.

Based on these values, three types of classifications are established for beaches:

1-Type 2 Beaches. Comply with the imperative and guide values for the different parameters

2-Type 1 Beaches. Comply with the imperative values, but not with the guide values.

3-Type 0 Beaches. Do not comply with the imperative values.
