The Large Stores Trade Index includes all the establisments that have premises of a minimum of 2,500 square metres and whose activity is included under NACE 47 (Retail trade).
In order to calculate the index, the sales and employees of all the establisments in the population are used, taking into account the province in which it is located and dividing the information into two large groups: food and other products.
In May 2008, a new change of base was performed and the existing series has been linked to the previous one, that used base 2004. This index had previously been published using base 1997 and 2000. There is currently a continuous series from January 1997.
It is a simple index that talles into account the whole population of interest.
The index is calculated and the results presented in accordance with the National Classification of Economic Activities - NACE - 2009.
