Sample desing

The criteria used for the stratification of the different tourist establishments and the survey period correspond to the following points:

- Stratification by type of hotel establishment, agrotourism or camp site

- Geographic stratification: With reference to hotel establishments, account is taken of the division of the Community in Provinces, with an individualised treatment of the three Basque capitals, the coast for Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa and inland areas for the three Provinces. And with regard to agrotourism establishments, three strata are, one for each Province.

- Stratification by categories: Carried out only in establishments that are grouped in two strata for the capitals of each Province, Group 1 (Hotels and Hostels of 5,4 & 3 stars) and Group 2 (Hotels and Hostels of 2 and 1 star).

- Selection of the reference weeks. In order not to overload the tast of the informing unit and to avoid additional difficulties, each hotel establishment is requested to present the data corresponding to seven consecutive days. The variation in time is such that between all the establishments a whole month is covered.
